Schoenenbourg

The large fort Schoenenbourg is the most eastern fort of the Maginot line in the north. It has 6 blocks of which 3 with artillery and 2 entrances. Underground are the barracks and the power plant with 4  Seltzer engines.

Armament:
Block 1: infantry casemate
Block 2: retractable turret for machine guns
Block 3: retractable turret for two 75 mm canons
Block 4: retractable turret for two 75 mm canons
Block 5: retractable turret for two 81 mortars
Block 6:  infantry casemate

Crew: 630 men
Engines: 4 Seltzer 165 HK

As from the 14th May Schoenenbourg was attacked with a 420 mm heavy mortars and Stokes. Germans gave also tried to break trough the casemates east of Schoenenbourg. In total the fort fires more than 16.000 grenades.
During the attacks some blocks of Schoenenbourg are hit and damaged. After the war these blocks are repaired.

Nowadays the fort is restored and open for public. In several areas are exhibitions
