The Maginot line was quit modern for it's time when you compare with the forts in Belgium and Germany. The line has proved it self in 1940. On places where the forts where build the Germans didn't pass. Unfortunately not on all places where forts

There where some problems:

- the forts didn't had anti-aircraft guns.
- On some places the forts where enormous (Hochwald, Hackenberg) with artillery and on some places are only small forts without artillery. Therefore the Germans could easily break trough on the weak places

The line had costs enormous despite investments in tanks and airplanes. But what is forgotten that in a time with a lot of people unemployed more then 40.000 people where working at the constructions of the forts. Therefore the construction of the Maginot line as a very good unemployment project
