The Maginot line is not a simple line but an organisation with a 20 tot 30 kilometre hinterland. From the border you will find:

1.  Anti-tank barricades with check points
    
2. small pillboxes and outposts sometimes camouflaged as house
    

3. The main defence line with forts, casemates and observation posts. These positions are 10 km from the border
    

4. The shelters behind the mail line for the supporting troops
    
5. A second defence line of casemates but hardly finished.
    

6. The hinterland with depots, railway, roads, power plants, etc. The main forts where connected by rail.
