THE GALLERIES

The galleries are the connection between the different parts of the fort. They are often a few kilometres long and sometimes there is a train on a 60 cm railway

In the galleries we find the following the barracks, etc but also:

• a secret exit
• the start of the underground sewer
• a room for the death bodies
• shafts for electric and telephone cables
• the commando post
• the transformer room of each block

The secret exit is only for the crew to escape in case of an emergency. The exit is a vertical shaft with earth. By removing a hatch the earth falls down and the crew can climb to the surface to open a hatch and escape
