A COMBAT BLOCK

A combat block is a casemate with armament. In the Maginot line each block is independent and his it's own ventilation ammunition warehouse and command post.

A block with a retractable turret has three floors and a block with embrasures only two. For the block is a dry canal for

  •  so that the enemy can't access the embrasures;

  • for the empty cartridges;

  • as emergency exit.

  • to collect concrete blocks which fall of the block during enemy fire

The canal can be defended with machine gun and hand grenades

On the top floor are the canons. The gun room is locked with airtight doors. With ventilators the block is overpressure to prevent gases to come in and to push the dirty gases out

Behind the gun room is the shaft down with an elevator and stairs. On the lower floor are the filters, bedrooms where the crew can rest and toilets

Below the block underground are the commando post of the block where the calculations are made how the guns have to fire

Blocks the most build:

  • a block with infantry armament (machine gun and anti-tank gun)

  • a block with a retractable turret

  • a block with three 75 mm canons.
