CASEMATES

The casemates are situated between the forts at +/- 1 - 3 kilometre from each other. Casemates always give crossfire towards each other. Most of the casemates have two floors.

• Top floor with one or two gun rooms, filter room and entrance

• Down floor: power plant, bedrooms, and room for the commander

Armament:

• 37 mm of 47 mm anti-tank gun in combination with a double heavy machine gun

• double heavy machine gun

• a turret for machine gun

• a turret for double heavy machine gun

• machine guns

The crew was approx 35 men

casemates near the Rhine

As the Germans occupied the Rhine area in 1936, the French government  decided to reinforce the Rhine area. Unfortunately the budgets were limited and only a line with casemates was build without protection of artillery

The casemates are simple with one or two gun rooms, one turret and only one level. The casemates give cross fire towards each other. The armament is simple: 37 mm or 47 mm anti tank and machine guns
