Located more than 20 meters underground the crew of 600 soldiers can rest here. There is a hospital for operations, sleeping rooms for soldiers and officers, washing rooms and the kitchen. In war time the crew worked in three shifts: one shift, the alarm shift, was ready for action, one shift had fatigue duty and one shift was at rest. In the kitchen the cooks prepared the meals 24 hours a day 7 days per week. In the underground barracks you will find - the hospital All rooms have ventilation and electric heating. The bedrooms
There were six bedrooms for each 30 soldiers and
six bedrooms for (non-commissioned) officers. |

The kitchen In Fermont there are two kitchens, one for the officers and one for the soldiers. Soldiers picked up the food at the kitchen and eat in the galleries of the barracks. The food for the men in the blocks was transported by train to them. In the kitchen are enough storage facilities for 3 month

The Canteen In the canteen the soldiers could relax when they had no duty. There were tables, chairs and a bar. In 1944 American soldiers have used Fermont as barrack during the offensive near Bastogne and made drawings on the walls.
