The ideas

When the first war is finished France is tired that Germany attacks the country and wants to have something to keep the Germans out of the country. The Generals who had defended the country in the first world war Foch, Pétain en Joffre  are asked to make a plan to defend the country. There are big differences in the ideas that the generals have. Some wants a mobile army the others a fortification system.

In 1922 a study is made how to defend the country and the solution is to build fortifications.

Extra studies are done by two commissions of make a route and the design the forts

 In 1929 the plan was made to build fortifications along side the border with Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, Switzerland and Italia. The law for the construction was made by minister  of war Andre Maginot and accepted in the parliament in 1930. The construction could start
